The ILUCIDARE Jury met on 21st February to select the two winners among the shortlisted entries to the ILUCIDARE Special Prizes within the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2020.
The meeting was hosted by Europa Nostra in its Brussels office.
After a first screening by independent local experts, the ILUCIDARE Jury members shortlisted 6 projects before meeting in Brussels. The Jury appreciated the quality and relevance of shortlisted projects, it was therefore not an easy task to pick the winners. The latter will respectively reward the best achievements in heritage-led innovation and in heritage-led diplomacy.
The ILUCIDARE Jury meeting was chaired by Laurent Lévi-Strauss on behalf of Europa Nostra and attended by all Jury members representing each one of the ILUCIDARE Consortium partners: Koen Van Balen from KU Leuven, Elisabetta Airaghi from KEA European Affairs, Alessandra Peruzzetto from the World Monuments Fund, Nol Binakaj from Cultural Heritage without Borders and Heritiana Renaud Ranaivoson from Imec. Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga from the International Cultural Centre and Maria Eugenia Siguencia from the University of Cuenca joined the discussions digitally.
Through the Special Prizes, the ILUCIDARE Jury and Consortium partners aim to support excellence in heritage-led innovation and diplomacy, to bring Europe’s success stories on these fields to the fore and to inspire others with good practice examples.
The shortlisted projects for the 2020 ILUCIDARE Special Prizes will be announced at the end of May and the two winners will be disclosed at the European Heritage Awards Ceremony organised by Europa Nostra in Brussels.

The ILUCIDARE Special Prizes within the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards aim to identify and promote best practices in cultural heritage-led innovation and diplomacy, as well as support and upscale outstanding achievements. The European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards scheme is run by Europa Nostra in partnership with the European Commission since 2002 and is widely recognised as Europe’s top honour in the field of cultural heritage.
The ILUCIDARE Special Prizes are supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme.
The 2021 Call of the ILUCIDARE Special Prizes will be published in May, with a deadline to apply on 1 October 2020. Stay tuned!
